If you would like to investigate certain jobs, use the Careerometer to discover further information, including average wages and typical working hours.

Try using the Skillsometer below which has been designed for those who are not sure what jobs they may be interested in. The quiz asks you to think about your skills and interests and the ways these can link to jobs. This can be a helpful first step in identifying possible future jobs.

BBC Bitesize - Careers

 

A free resource that includes tips and advice for completing applications, writing CV’s and preparing for interviews. The website has lots of videos and information to explore different careers and post 16 options such as college, university, working and apprenticeships.

The National Careers Service

 

This is a free service for adults and young people aged over 13. The service provides career information, advice and guidance as well as learning about training opportunities. You can find out more by clicking on the link or you can speak to an advisor by calling 0800 100 900 or by using their webchat service.

Essex Youth Service

 

Offer online activities, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Plan B Traineeships to young people aged between 13 - 25. They also offer support in education, employment and training.

National Apprenticeship Service

 

The National Apprenticeship Service lists the apprenticeship opportunities by area and offers guidance on how to apply for apprenticeships.

If you are not ready for an apprenticeship, try using Find a traineeship. 

 

If you are aged between 16 - 24 you can apply for a traineeship. A traineeship is a course with work experience that gets you ready for work or an apprenticeship. It can last from 6 weeks up to 1 year, though most traineeships last for less than 6 months.
